Gaza:

Health officials in Gaza said an Israeli airstrike on a group of police officers at a school housing displaced Palestinians killed at least 11 people on Sunday, while the military said a Hamas command center was hit.

“Eleven people, including a woman and a girl, were killed when an Israeli airstrike hit the Safad school in Gaza City, where displaced people were being housed,” civil defense spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP, adding several people were also injured.

The school had a Hamas police post, another Gaza health official said on condition of anonymity.

The Israeli military said its air force had attacked a Hamas command center in the Safad school.

“The IAF struck Hamas terrorists operating within a command and control center embedded in the area formerly serving as the Safad School in Gaza City,” the army said in a statement.

The war between Israel and Hamas broke out after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, resulting in the deaths of 1,205 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli figures.

Since then, the Israeli army has been ruthlessly bombing the Gaza Strip from the air, sea and ground, killing at least 40,738 people so far, the territory’s health ministry said.

According to the UN, the majority of the dead are women and children.
