I won’t buy a Galaxy Watch Ultra if these leaks are true
Samsung has announced that its next Unpacked launch event will take place on July 10 and one of the rumored products is the Galaxy Watch Ultra. But if the leaks are true, I won’t be buying one.
Frankly, I’m surprised it took Samsung this long to bring out a rival to the Apple Watch Ultra, which debuted in 2022. However, it seems like it wasn’t worth the wait.
Of course, I’m assuming leaked information at this stage, while Unpacked is still a few weeks away, but rumors are often true.
The first and biggest problem in my opinion is the design. I’m generally very pleased with the way Samsung has approached wearable design, with things like rotating bezels and customizable buttons, but the company’s Ultra just looks ugly and boring.

If renders posted online by leakers are anything to go by, the device will have a strangely bizarre combination of a square casing with slightly curved sides and a round screen in the middle.
And despite looking like a big mess of different shapes and lines, the screen size is reportedly no bigger than the Galaxy Watch 6’s at 1.5 inches.
I’m sure the premium smartwatch is packed with top-notch tech and features, but I just don’t think I could live with it every day.
But wait a minute…
However, during the writing of this article, a new rendering of the Galaxy Watch Ultra has come to light by the legendary Evan Blass. It shows a more catchy and stylish dark gray (possibly titanium) edition with an orange accent color, which breaks up the design in a pleasant way.
Maybe this is the colorway for me, but I still find it too boxy, big and heavy – even for an Ultra.
The other problem, and this is somewhat surprising, is that the smartwatch will cost around $700. That’s actually not as expensive as the Apple Watch Ultra 2 at $799/£799, but still too rich for me.
Whether the leaks are true or not, we won’t have to find out for long. And I’d have to put the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch 7 range through its paces to see what they’re like in real life.
