Boeing 757 loses wheel during takeoff at LAX

A Boeing 757-200 plane lost a wheel as the United Airlines plane took off from Los Angeles.

None of the 74 passengers and seven crew members on the flight, which was headed to Denver, reported injuries, the airline told JS.

“United Flight 1001 landed safely in Denver after losing one wheel on takeoff from Los Angeles International Airport. The wheel was recovered in Los Angeles and we are investigating what caused this event,” the airline said.

A Boeing spokesperson told JS that the plane was delivered 30 years ago, in 1994. The spokesman added that Boeing stopped producing 757 aircraft in 2004.

The event is similar to an incident in March when a Boeing 777-200 with 235 passengers and 14 crew on board lost a tire during a flight from San Francisco to Osaka, Japan. Although no one on board was injured, the plane’s tire damaged a parked car.

The airline also made headlines Sunday night for reaching a plea deal in a case involving a felony count of conspiracy to defraud the United States. The case concerns two fatal crashes of the 737 Max aircraft in 2018 and 2019, which killed a total of 346 people.
