Denver breaks record high temperatures again in three-day streak

Denver broke its record high temperature for the third straight day on Sunday, reaching 101 degrees just before 1 p.m. as a heat wave toasted the Front Range.

It was 101 degrees at Denver International Airport at 12:56 p.m., and temperatures could still rise a few degrees throughout the day, National Weather Service forecasters said in a post on.

The previous record for July 14 was 100 degreesestablished in 1878.

The last time Denver broke July temperature records for three consecutive days was in 2005, when thermometers peaked at 104 degrees on July 21 and 102 degrees on July 22 and 23, according to the National Weather Service.

Rising temperatures have prompted heat advisories across the state and, combined with gusty winds and thunderstorms, raised concerns about critical firefighting efforts, forecasters said.
