Ariana Grande Slipped Into Glinda Pink at the 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony

Ahead of the film, Grande says she has formed an unbreakable bond with her co-star Erivo, who also dazzled at the opening ceremony in an emerald green Louis Vuitton look. “It’s a very special moment in our lives, and I’m so grateful to share it with Cynthia,” Grande said. “I think the best thing about working with Cyn, aside from the fact that she is such a brilliant and remarkable performer and scene partner, is just how completely loving, open and honest we can be with each other. I think what made every day together on this set so beautiful was the space we were able to hold for each other. We laughed, we cried, we learned so much together, from each other and also from these characters we were lucky enough to play.

For Grande’s Glinda-inspired look, she turned to Thom Browne for a custom creation that channeled the iconic Good Witch. The result was a low-waisted pink duchess silk satin dress with a bow detail at the waist, complete with marching hair bows and white silk opera gloves. “For this look, it was really an ode to the history of French fashion and culture from the haute couture houses in Paris,” says Grande, who was styled by Mimi Cuttrell. “We worked closely with Thom Browne’s team on this, it was a dream to work with. Mimi and I took inspiration from the beloved Audrey Hepburn and classic silhouettes from the 1950s to recreate an eternal look.”

Her favorite details from the finished design? “Don’t make me choose! Every detail is so important and integral to the look,” she says. “The Duchess’s beautiful pink satin fabric, the dropped waist, the tie details, the shoes, and I loved my hair and makeup too. The vision came together so beautifully and I feel so lucky to be working with my incredible glam team.”

She teases that you can expect many more perfectly executed Glinda looks Badthe November issue. “The looks of the press tour will be nothing short of magical,” says Grande. “Mimi and I had so much fun brainstorming together, we can’t wait. Plenty of pink to look forward to of course! But there are so many wonderful Ozian elements to play with. We will make Glinda proud. [Cynthia and I] will remain as present and grateful as possible every step of the way – and very caffeinated.”
