Nestle recalls Gerber baby cereal in Canada after testing found Cronobacter

Nestle Canada Inc. is recalling certain Gerber brand baby cereals due to contamination with Cronobacter.

Testing by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has identified the contamination in Oat Banana & Mango Baby Cereal, according to a recall notice posted today by the agency.

The affected baby cereals were distributed online and in the following provinces: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan. It may also have spread in other provinces and territories, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

The recalled cereals are sold in 8-ounce packages with the UPC number 0 65000 13361 5 and the code 2025 MA 30 3334007809. The recall did not include product photos.

At the time of posting, no illnesses had been confirmed.

Consumers are urged to check their homes for the recalled product and discontinue use immediately. Cronobacter infections can be fatal.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is conducting a food safety investigation, which could lead to the recall of other products. The agency verifies that the industry is removing recalled products from the market.
