Aurora man arrested for child abuse, kidnapping Friday

Officers pursuing a stolen vehicle in Aurora were shot Thursday evening, police said.

Aurora police officers responded to reports of a burglary in the 24200 block of East Mexico Avenue around 8 p.m. Thursday, according to a statement from the police. The caller said their car had been stolen from the garage.

Officers found the vehicle near 23rd Avenue and Dayton Street — about 16 miles northwest of the first robbery — when suspects in the car fired several shots at police, the statement said.

Officers did not return fire and pursued the car, police said.

The chase traveled to Denver and back to Aurora and ended near Montview Boulevard and Cathay Street in Aurora when the stolen vehicle suffered a flat tire, police said.

Aurora officers said several suspects ran from the car and that as of 11:30 p.m. Thursday, an adult and several minors had been arrested. The total number of suspects involved was not known Friday morning.
