Major celebrities are working behind the scenes to secure high-profile appearances at the upcoming Democratic National Convention…but the Kamala Harris campaign isn’t for everyone… for fear of making the DNC feel too Hollywood.
Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ that the Harris-Walz campaign wants to be smart about celebrity involvement and is working hard to avoid portraying the Chicago-based DNC as a “Hollywood liberal elite” event.
Our sources say the campaign feels… Hillary Clinton gave celebrities too big a platform in 2016 and it backfired on her… and they don’t want to overdo the Hollywood aspect so much that it turns off regular people.
In other words, it’s NOT the more the merrier when it comes to celebrity appearances. Instead, our sources say the DNC and the Harris-Walz campaign are being more strategic and selective… picking their spots with celebrity speakers and performers who make sense.
It will be interesting to see who gets invited to the DNC when the dust settles. According to our sources, plans are still being finalized and numerous major artists are competing for convention spots and their own campaign events with Harris and Walz.
When President Biden dropped out of the race and Harris endorsedWe’re told her people were inundated with inquiries from A-list celebrities and musicians wanting to get involved with her campaign and the DNC.
But now that there are concerns about turning the DNC into a Hollywood production, it looks like the Harris-Walz campaign will have to make some tough choices… and turn away a lot of celebrities.
We reached out to the Harris For President campaign and a senior spokesperson Adrienne Elrod tells TMZ… “We live in the most personalized media environment ever, so it’s critical that we leverage the unprecedented excitement around this historic ticket by doing everything we can to break through to the voters who will decide this election. “
Elrod adds… “Celebrities are bringing new voters into the fold by authentically speaking to their fans about the election and the issues at stake in a way only they can.”
We know Johannes Legend will be part of the program, although we don’t know if he will speak or perform.
Despite all the Hollywood love, don’t expect to see it Taylor Swift or Beyonce at the DNC … Taylor is touring abroad at the same time and our sources highly doubt there will be a personal appearance from Bey at the DNC or a campaign rally.
