Thornton Police posted a press release on X Officers were dispatched to a parking lot in the 9700 block of Washington Street shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday for reports of a man shooting a gun into the air. When officers arrived, the man pointed his gun at them and retreated to his car, the release said.
As police tried to negotiate with the man as he sat in his car and pointed his gun at himself and police, he shot and killed his dog, authorities said. Police negotiated with the man for 30 minutes in an attempt to get him to surrender, after which he exited his vehicle and shot at officers.
