University Hill neighbors, partygoers react to shooting Friday night in Boulder – The Denver Post

A recording late Friday evening at a party in Boulder’s University Hill neighborhood that injured three people has raised concerns among partygoers and local residents.

According to a news release, Boulder police responded to the shooting, which occurred at a large party near the corner of Euclid Avenue and 14th Street, Friday around 11:30 p.m.

Three people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to their extremities, and all three were stable as of Saturday evening, the news release said.

Evan Blecher, a recent graduate of Fairview High School and about to start his freshman year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, was at the party Friday but left about 30 minutes before the shooting occurred.

Blecher said it was a busy house party, with people gathering both inside and in the courtyard of the house. Around 11:00 or 11:10 p.m., he said, he and his friends left the party after running into another group they knew and decided to get something to eat together.

“It was a little scary just knowing that we could have been there” when the shooting happened, Blecher said.

Deanna Fujii, a 26-year-old Hill resident who lives a few blocks down the street from where the shooting occurred, said she didn’t hear anything out of the ordinary that evening. She thinks she was asleep when it happened.

Fujii said shootings on the Hill have been rare during the time she has lived there, but when they do happen, they are concerned.

“I think it’s concerning that we have something that could be life-threatening, especially around the student population,” she said. “I definitely have concerns. And I’m sure the rest of the Hill neighbors are concerned about it too.”

Police continued to investigate the incident as of Monday, Boulder police spokesperson Dionne Waugh said. Detectives believe the shooting happened in the middle of the street, but they are still investigating the events of that night and following up on suspect leads.

There is no new information about the victims’ conditions, but Waugh said police typically only receive updates on victims if their conditions worsen.

Although the University of Colorado Boulder has now done so a party registration program that allows students to reduce the risk of getting a ticket while throwing a party, a CU spokesperson said Monday that there were no registered parties last weekend.

Anyone who attended the party or has video footage or other information related to the shooting is asked to contact Detective Max Neuzil at 303-441-1974 or neuzilm@bouldercolorado.gov. Consult case number 24-07866. Individuals wishing to remain anonymous may contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
