'Scrubs' cast was 'exhausted' during final season, says Zach Braff

While “Scrubs” was a huge success on its network on NBC, series star Zach Braff says the cast was “exhausted” by the final season of production. In an interview for Michael Rosenbaum’s “Inside of You” podcastthe actor recalled how exhausted the cast was during the show’s final run.

“By the time the nine years were up, we were kind of exhausted from it,” Braff said. “I felt like we were starting to repeat jokes at the time. Everyone was pretty fried. … We would work crazy hours that people don’t even do anymore.

He added: “We didn’t really have much of a life out there.”

During its run, the medical sitcom garnered a wide and loyal fan base, industry recognition, and received 17 Emmy nominations, winning twice.

In an interview with Variety‘Scrubs’ creator Bill Lawrence admitted that he believes there is real momentum for a revival. However, there are notable obstacles, such as the fact that “Scrubs” is a Disney show and Lawrence has a deal with Warner Bros. TV, and the cast of the series is quite busy with many projects.

“I find it fascinating that the passion for ‘Scrubs,’ and I’m so grateful for that, has never gone away,” Lawrence said. “Maybe it’s because Zach and Donald are such friends in real life and they do their podcast and those T-Mobile commercials. None of us really need it, and that’s probably the biggest barrier to entry: everyone is super successful, so talented and lovely.”

As for Braff, while he was honest about how exhausting the show was nearing its end, the actor credited “Scrubs” with changing his life: “I miss laughing every day. Belly laughing every day was the job.”

He’s also said to be interested in donning the stethoscope again, provided a potential reboot was branded as a limited series: “When we signed on to do our shows, they put you under a pretty insane contract of about seven years and so. which I wouldn’t do. But when you’re talking about something narrow, you’re basically saying, “Do you want to get the gang back together and have some damn laughs with some of your best friends and get paid well?”
