Meghan Markle says three-year-old daughter Lilibet has 'found her voice'

Meghan Markle talked about her and her husband Prince Harry’Lilibet’s three-year-old daughter reaches an important milestone.

“I think part of the role modeling that I definitely try to do as a mother is to encourage our daughter,” Markle, 43, said during a panel on Sunday, August 18, titled Afro-Descendant Women and Power: Voice of Equity. “And at the age of three she found her voice.”

The Duchess of Sussex added that she is “proud” of Lilibet, who she welcomed with Harry, 39, in 2021. (Markle and Harry, who tied the knot in 2018, also share son Archie, 5.)

“So we create the conditions where there’s a ripple effect where young girls and young women know that if someone else encourages them to use their voice and be heard, that’s what they’re going to do,” Markle said. “They’re going to create a very different environment than so many of us grew up in, where our voices were meant to be smaller,”

Markle continued, “And by raising them now, we are changing the circumstances and environment where everyone has the space to be the best version of themselves.”

Markle spoke from next to him Binaifer Nowrojee and Colombian Vice President Francia Marquez during the panel event, which was part of her and Harry’s trip to Colombia.

While visiting a local drumming school, Escuela Tambores de Cabildo, in Cartagena on Saturday, August 17, Markle paid tribute to her children. Markle wore a black striped maxi dress from Colombian designer Johanna Ortiz and paired the look with a gold ‘Imperial Disc Hanger’ from Ariel Gordon Jewelry. The necklace was personalized with her children’s names, “Archie” and “Lilibet.”

Ahead of Harry and Meghan’s trip to the South American country, the couple discussed The Parents Network, a new initiative in partnership with their Archewell Foundation.

“All you want to do as parents is protect them,” Markle said during her and Harry’s joint interview earlier this month Jane Pauley for an episode of CBS Sunday morning. “And because we can see what’s happening online, we know there’s still a lot of work to be done, and we’re excited to be part of the change for good.”
