Critics think JD Vance's DNC response applies perfectly to Trump

Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) hit back at Rep. Jamie Raskin (D) on Wednesday after the Maryland representative questioned whether he understood why Donald Trump had a “sudden vacancy” to become his running mate.

Raskin — in his speech at the Democratic National Convention on Monday — mocked the Ohio senator by poking fun at Trump’s relationship with former Vice President Mike Pence, who refused to block the certification of electoral votes amid efforts by the former president to overturn the results of the 2020 election. .

“They tried to kill your predecessor,” Raskin declared, in a likely reference to the Capitol rioters chanting “Hang Mike Pence!” chanted. on January 6, 2021.

CNN’s Jake Tapper, in an interview with Vance later that evening, asked the Ohio senator if he has “any reservations” about taking the opportunity to become Trump’s running mate, given what happened with Pence that day.

Vance said he couldn’t help but laugh at Raskin’s comments.

“I simply don’t understand a person in American politics in 2024 who whines about what happened to him instead of using his leadership and influence to improve the lives of American citizens,” Vance said.

Critics on social media have ridiculed Vance for his description of a “whiny” politician by pointing to who he works with: a former president who regularly airs his grievances.
