Transfer deadline day: Victor Osimhen and Raheem Sterling lead the list of players who could move before the window closes

The transfer window for the major European leagues closes on Friday, and a lot can happen between now and then. From forward shuffles to US Men’s National Team goalkeeper Matt Turner needing a new home, and even a bonafide star in Victor Osimhen on the market, there are plenty of deals that could be in the works until the final moments before the window closes .

Let’s take a look at some of those names:

FWD: Victor Osimhen, Napoli

With potential offers from Saudi Arabia and Chelsea, Victor Osimhen is will be one of the biggest stories of the transfer deadline day. Napoli already have their replacement close in Romelu Lukaku and there is always a chance that a mysterious team will emerge at the eleventh hour to get a deal over the line. Could a club like Arsenal swoop in at the last minute, given they are just a clinical number nine away from toppling Manchester City at the top of the Premier League? Osimhen is no stranger to scoring plenty of goals and whichever club he plays for once the window slams shut, he will be a serious addition.

MIDDLE: Manuel Ugarte, Paris Saint-Germain

Now that Scott McTominay is on his way to Napoli, the way seems to be cleared Manuel Ugarte leaves for Manchester United. If they get this over the line, the Red Devils would finally have a long-term answer to their defensive midfield problems again, raising expectations for Erik ten Hag. Ugarte is a top-class midfielder who would benefit greatly from continuing United’s improved squad composition after a busy summer.

GK: Matt Turner, Nottingham Forest

According to ESPNNottingham Forest have rejected the move for American goalkeeper Matt Turner as they look to sell him permanently, which would be the best solution for both parties. While it is unknown whether Turner can be a starting Premier League goalkeeper, that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be a starter somewhere and being on the bench will only hurt his national team prospects. With the 2026 World Cup approaching, Turner will want to find a permanent home sooner or later to avoid a lost season at Forest.

FWD: Raheem Sterling, Chelsea

Raheem Sterling, frozen out of Chelsea’s bloated squad, already spent last season with uncertain playing time and with even fewer minutes in his future at Chelsea, now is the time to make a move. His high wages make it difficult, but the 29-year-old has something to offer someone in the world. Sterling may not be the best finisher, but with his ability to get into space he can create chances for attackers in the right system. It may not be Chelsea anymore, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a footballer in it.

FWD: Jadon Sancho, Manchester United

Another English winger on the fringes of his club, there is a chance this transfer window could offer him a Jadon Sancho for Sterling swap deal. With both Chelsea and Manchester United keeping the players out of their plans, swapping issues could be a way to provide both with a much-needed change of scenery. United could do with extra pace on the left, while Sancho’s creativity and skill on the ball would be appreciated at Chelsea. Wages can be an issue, but if there’s a will, there’s a way.

FWD: Ivan Toney, Brentford

Another striker reportedly torn between Saudi Arabia and Chelsea, it is unknown exactly how this move would work. For Chelsea, they are finally getting production out of Nicolas Jackson, but bringing in another forward would only compound the squad issues. If it’s Osimhen it’s a different story because if a club can get a generational talent they should do it, but Toney isn’t in that level. He is a useful player who will improve any team, but Toney’s Brentford chapter seems all but over.

DEF: Kieran Trippier, Newcastle United

Kieran Trippier has been linked with a reunion with Sean Dyche at Everton, but of the players on this list, he could be one with the team having doubts about him leaving. Newcastle are looking to get younger in defense and with Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento the future of the outside back positions has been decided, but after a less than ideal start to the season there are plenty of reasons why Trippier should not only stay, but be restored to the starting XI.

FWD: Santiago Giménez, Feyenoord

being Nottingham Forest working hard for the Feyenoord man. The Dutch side have already signed Julian Carranza from the Philadelphia Union to support Santiago Gimenez, but they insist they want to keep him. The Tricky Trees are no strangers to spending money and can put up a number that is too high to ignore. Chris Wood has served as leader, but Forest want more.

DEF: Ben Chilwell, Chelsea

The team’s bloat strikes again. Enzo Maresca has already said that Ben Chilwell does not suit the way he wants Chelsea to play. And continuing with another familiar theme on this list, the left-back has also faced durability issues over the years. Chilwell is not a player who has had any serious suitors during the window so far, but before the window closes, something could emerge that would see him leave Stamford Bridge.
