Oprah Winfrey hosts 'AI and the Future Us' special for ABC

Oprah Winfrey will host a primetime special for ABC that will explore the use and impact of artificial intelligence on people’s daily lives.

The special, titled “AI and the Future of Us: An Oprah Winfrey Special,” will air on September 12 at 8 PM ET and stream on Hulu the next day. The event will feature conversations with technology and media experts such as Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, Bill Gates, former CEO of Microsoft and Chairman of the Gates Foundation, content creator Marques Brownlee and many more.

“AI and the Future of Us: An Oprah Winfrey Special” provides every viewer with a serious, entertaining and meaningful foundation for understanding AI and empowers everyone to be part of one of the most important global conversations of the 21st century,” reads it is the log line.

“Altman will explain in layman’s terms how AI works and discuss the enormous personal responsibility that must be borne by the executives of AI companies; Gates will outline the coming AI revolution in science, healthcare and education and warns of the once-in-a-century impact AI could have on the job market, and YouTube creator and technologist Marques Brownlee will lead Winfrey through stunning demonstrations of the capabilities of AI,” it continues.

Other guests include Tristan Harris and Aza Raskin, co-founders of the Center for Humane Technology; FBI Director Christopher Wray and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Marilynne Robinson.

“AI and the Future of Us: An Oprah Winfrey Special” is produced by Winfrey’s Harpo Productions and executive produced by Josh Tyrangiel of Winfrey and Backstory Partners.
