Motorola’s G35 and G55 compete with the Samsung Galaxy A series

The budget smartphone market is heating up and Motorola has just entered the fray with two new offerings, the Motorola G35 5G and Motorola G55 5G.

These phones join other models in the Edge 50 series and are designed to challenge the dominance of Samsung’s Galaxy A series, especially the recently launched Galaxy A15 5G and Galaxy A25 5G.

Motorola aims to combine stylish design, powerful performance and affordability, making the G35 and G55 strong contenders in the race to be among the best budget phones.

In terms of design, Motorola has not compromised on aesthetics. The G55 comes in statement colors Forest Grey, Smoky Green and Twilight Purple, while the G35 is available in Leaf Green, Guava Red and Sage Green.

Both devices have a water-repellent design (although no official IP rating) and are available in a smooth matte finish or a soft vegan leather option, making them not only attractive but also durable when combined with Gorilla Glass 3 on the front.

The Motorola G35 5G and Motorola G55 5G also have impressive displays. The G55 features a 6.49-inch FHD+ LCD screen, while the G35 goes slightly larger with a 6.72-inch screen.

Both devices should offer bright colors and sharp images, with the G35 standing out thanks to its Display Color Boost technology and a peak brightness of 1000 nits, ensuring visibility even in bright outdoor environments.

Additionally, the 120Hz refresh rate on both models delivers smoother scrolling and a smoother viewing experience than a regular 60Hz panel.

Under the hood, the Motorola G55 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7025 processor, which should ensure strong daily performance. With up to 12 GB of RAM, multitasking is probably one of the most important assets.

The Motorola G35 5G, on the other hand, runs on the UNISOC T760 processor and offers up to 8 GB of RAM, although this should be enough for non-demanding tasks.

Both devices are equipped with a 5000 mAh battery, designed to keep you powered all day long. The G55 supports 30W TurboPower charging, while the G35 offers 18W fast charging, but there’s no charger in the box.

Both devices have a 50Mp main camera with quad-pixel technology and autofocus. An 8MP ultra-wide camera enables group photos and expansive landscapes, while a 16MP selfie camera with Face Retouch mode ensures your selfies always look their best.

The G55 takes things a step further with a macro vision lens designed to capture intricate details, and optical image stabilization (OIS), which helps eliminate blur in your photos and delivers steadier videos.

Motorola has priced its new phones competitively, making them accessible to a wide range of consumers. The Motorola G35 5G will go on sale in the UK from the end of September with a starting price of €199/£149.99, while the Motorola G55 5G will go on sale in the UK from early September with a starting price of €249/£ 199.99.

You can buy them directly from Motorola or other retailers Three, Vodafone, EE, ArgosAmazon, CurriesAnd John Lewis. However, none of these will be available in the US.

While their main rivals, the Galaxy A15 5G and Galaxy A25 5G, also offer solid value for money, the Motorola G35 and G55 offer several advantages that make them worthy opponents.
