Joker 2 release date, plot, cast and trailer
The next part of Arthur Fleck’s story is the most mysterious and unpredictable film of the year. The first trailer for Folie à Deux promises a melancholic romance between the Joker and Harley Quinn, musical numbers and a fresh dose of Gotham chaos.
2019’s The Joker, created by Todd Phillips, stands out from other DC films. The filmmakers opted for a realistic tone and dark images, strongly inspired by the work of Martin Scorsese. The film’s story and grim cinematography enhance the tragic story of Arthur Fleck, who struggles with poverty and mental illness.
Although Joker was initially intended to be a standalone film, a sequel was announced not long after it debuted. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming film, Joker: Folie à Deux.

Joker: Folie à Deux plot
The filmmakers haven’t revealed much information about the film’s plot yet. However, there are a few things we can guess.
It appears that Joker 2 will be set in Arkham Asylum, the hospital for mentally ill criminals that Arthur is sent to after the events of the first film. In the comics, Joker meets the young psychiatrist Harleen Quinzel here. As time passes, the doctor becomes increasingly fascinated by her patient and forms a dangerous bond with him.
As a result, Quinzel is manipulated by the Joker and driven to madness. She falls in love with the dangerous criminal, changes her name to Harley Quinn and becomes the companion of Gotham’s Prince of Crime. Most likely, the sequel will address the toxic relationship between Arthur Fleck and his psychiatrist.

The most surprising thing is that Joker: Folie à Deux… will be a musical. It is not yet clear whether the sequel will have a different atmosphere than the first film or whether the filmmakers will combine the conventions of a musical with a dark, depressive atmosphere.
What does Folie à Deux mean?
The subtitle of Joker 2 – Folie à Deux – is French. In psychiatry the term is (pronounced fo-leeuh-doo) means induced paranoia, a condition in which a person strongly associated with a mentally ill patient begins to share his or her delusions.
As you might guess, the person who adopts Joker’s delusions will be Dr. Being Harleen Quinzel.

Joker: Folie à Deux cast and crew
The first major cast announcement for Joker 2 came as a surprise to many. It was revealed that the iconic Harley Quinn would be played by none other than Lady Gaga. While many fans were shocked by this news, she is a well-placed choice.
Stefani Germanotta has had quite a successful acting career. She won a Golden Globe for her role in American Horror Story: Hotel and received an Oscar nomination for her performance in A Star Is Born. Plus, her extravagant image resonates quite well with Harley Quinn’s madness.
But why doesn’t Margot Robbie, who played the Joker’s companion in three films, return to the role of Harley? The answer is simple: The Joker and Joker 2 represent another, alternate branch of the DC Universe.
