A nighttime explosion in Sedalia causes a fire and engulfs house

An early morning explosion in Douglas County sparked a fire that quickly engulfed a home and RV in Sedalia, sheriff’s officials said.

Douglas County sheriff’s deputies responded around 3:15 a.m. Saturday to reports of an explosion on Platte Avenue in Sedalia, the sheriff’s office said in a statement on social media.

Officers immediately began evacuating nearby homes, while crews from the West Metro Fire Protection District and South Metro Fire Rescue began firefighting, the sheriff’s office said.
