Ananya Panday stars in 'Call Me Bae' on Prime Video India

Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra as executive producers bring a glitzy pedigree to “Call Me Bae,” a new Hindi-language drama series launching on Prime Video in September.

Written by Ishita Moitra, Samina Motlekar and Rohit Nair, Call Me Bae tells the story of Bae, a young woman who is reduced from heiress to con artist after a scandal. She discovers that her most valuable assets are not her diamonds, but her street smarts and style. Broke but refusing to be broken, she navigates the newsrooms of Mumbai where she finds beaus, sisterhood and her better self.

The eight-part Prime Video original series is a Dharmatic Entertainment production. It is created by Ishita Moitra and is directed by Collin D’Cunha.

Ananya Panday (Dharma Productions films “Student of the Year 2”, “Rocky aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani” and Gehraiyaan”) plays the lead role, Bella ‘Bae’ Chowdhary. The supporting cast includes Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkaan Jaferi, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Lisa Mishra and Mini Mathur.

Johar is one of India’s best-known filmmakers (Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham”, “My Name Is Khan”), producers and television personalities (“Koffee with Karan”). His Dharma Productions and Dharmatic Entertainment have several supply agreements with Netflix and Prime Video. Johar’s companies previously produced the feature film “Yodha” and the upcoming comedy “Bad Newz” starring Vicky Kaushal for Prime Video. The latter will be released in theaters in mid-July.

“Yodha! was part of a massive slate of new and returning series and original and licensed films for 2024, unveiled by Prime Video in India in March. Johar hosted the star-studded event. Johar and Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga recently announced a series “Gyaarah Gyaarah” for another streamer Zee5.
