Anurag Kashyap to headline Disney+ Hotstar, Fremantle's 'Bad Cop'

Filmmaker and actor Anurag Kashyap (“Leo”) and Gulshan Devaiah (“Duranga”) will headline the Disney+ Hotstar Indian series “Bad Cop.”

The series marks the fiction series debut for Fremantle India, known so far for reality shows ‘India’s Got Talent’ and ‘Indian Idol’.

The series, an adaptation of RTL’s German show “Bad Cop: Kriminell Gut” (2017) by Rensil D’Silva (“Bambai Meri Jaan”), is directed by Aditya Datt (“Crakk”). Devaiah plays Karan, a fierce cop who tries to hunt down Kazbe (Kashyap), a villain more powerful and deadly than him, while simultaneously managing his personal relationships. The cast also includes Harleen Sethi (“Kohrra”), Saurabh Sachdeva (“Animal”) and Aishwarya Sushmita (“Khakee: The Bihar Chapter”).

Aradhana Bhola, Managing Director, Fremantle India said, “We are excited to start a brand new chapter in Fremantle India’s journey of content creation with our first ever drama web series ‘Bad Cop.’ To bring to life the Indian version of this format, originally created by RTL, for Disney+ Hotstar, we collaborated with the best talent across the board. Writer Rensil D’Silva has reimagined the intriguing yet quirky world in an Indian setting. The rooted characters were brought to life by a talented ensemble cast led by Gulshan Devaiah, Harleen Sethi, Saurabh Sachdeva and Anurag Kashyap under the able direction of Aditya Datt who above all, brought his sense of mass action to the series.

Datt added: “It’s a hardcore classic cop-versus-villain chase, but with a fun twist that will leave you intrigued until the end. The series has a high octane content, eccentric characters and is a complete entertainer.”

Kashyap said, “I have created many characters that are gory, quirky, dark and much more, but believe it or not, it was difficult for me to be one. Kazbe is someone who doesn’t think too much before he does something, he just does it. He is horrible, eccentric, nefarious and a typical villain. I had to bite into the complexity of this character and make it my own.”

Devaiah added, “I was familiar with Aditya Datt’s style since I had worked with him earlier. He is very straightforward and wants to make an entertaining, cool show that people will enjoy. The action was a bit heavy, especially the running, which challenged me because I’m not used to action and not physically built for it. Overall, it was fun working with Fremantle India and Disney+ Hotstar. Moreover, it was fun to act with Anurag, who had previously only directed and produced my films, but it was also fun to do scenes and action with him. I never expected to act with him.”
