Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputies were involved in a shooting Wednesday — and someone was taken to a hospital — but officials would not say whether that person had been shot.
Officials have not said what led to the shooting, which they would characterize only as an “officer-involved shooting.”
Just after 4 p.m., Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office warned on social media of a heavy police presence in the 4500 block of South Himalaya Circle, just south of Aurora and east of Quincy Reservoir.
One victim was taken to the hospital, but the sheriff’s office could not immediately confirm the nature of their injuries, spokesperson Ginger Delgado said.
Delgado declined to say whether the suspect in the case was injured or killed, but confirmed no one is in custody there is no threat to the community.
Officers responded to the area after someone called 911 about a person with a gun in their home, Delgado said.
The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office Critical Incident Response Team is on scene investigating the shooting.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
Updated May 15, 2024 at 6:35 PM: This story has been updated to correct how this shooting was originally characterized. Arapahoe County sheriff’s officials would not confirm that their deputies had shot anyone.
