Crushed
Ari says she shared that fact with a group of young fans during a question-and-answer session early in her career.
That revelation is not well received by the loved ones of Tony Hughes — a deaf, nonverbal victim who Dahmer targeted and murdered in 1991.
ShirleyTony’s mother, tells TMZ … she hopes Ariana understands how hurtful her comments are, noting that the confession made her emotional.
She was also disturbed when Ariana laughed about her Dahmer fascination during the podcast. Shirley wants the singer and the general public to know that she and the families of other victims experience very real pain every time Dahmer is raised.
She adds… “To me it seems like she is sick of mind. It’s not fancy or funny to say you’d like to go out to dinner with him. It’s also not something you should say to young people, what she says. did.”
Shirley says she finds it disturbing. Ari didn’t seem to show any empathy for the victims’ loved ones.
Tony’s sister, Barbarashares a similar sentiment … saying the comments glorify Dahmer, who was beaten to death in prison in 1994. She would like Ariana to apologize so that her fans know this is not right.
The reality is that Ariana is far from the only one joining true crime stories like Dahmer. The genre makes a huge amount of money for TV, films, streaming services and book publishers.
In fact, Tony’s family was just as outraged when the Netflix series ‘Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’ came out with Evan Peters playing the infamous cannibal.
Creator Ryan Murphy defended his project at the time, saying they had done a lot of research and contacted the families and friends of twenty victims, but never received a response.
Barbara summed up her response to Ariana, telling us, “Unfortunately, until it happens to her and her family, she just doesn’t know what we went through.”
