Aurora shooting suspect arrested after falling from moving car, police say

The suspect in Friday night’s fatal shooting in Aurora was taken into custody after falling from a moving vehicle that was being followed by officers, police said. Police.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired at a home in the 3600 block of South Zeno Way around 10:45 p.m. Friday, according to a department summary of events posted on the social media website X.

One victim, an adult male, was transported to a hospital with a gunshot wound but later died, the department said. The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will release his identity at a later date.

An adult male was seen fleeing, and several officers followed his vehicle. As the car made a turn, the suspect “fell out of the moving vehicle,” which crashed nearby, according to police.

The suspect was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the fall but is now in custody, police said. It does not appear the suspect tried to avoid officers by jumping out of the car, but was thrown from the car because the vehicle malfunctioned, police spokeswoman Sydney Edwards said.

“He took a turn and threw him out the door,” Edwards said in an interview Saturday.

The fleeing suspect and the victim knew each other, Edwards said, although she had no further information on a motive for the shooting as of Saturday afternoon.
