Beef imported from Uruguay recalled due to lack of USDA inspection

South American Meat Inc., also known as 5Gogi LLC, of ​​Commerce, CA, is recalling approximately 20,111 pounds of various eligible frozen raw beef products that were not submitted to FSIS for re-inspection upon entry into the United States, according to the U.S. Department of the Food Safety and Agriculture Inspection Service (FSIS).

The problem was discovered during routine FSIS surveillance activities on imported products, and FSIS determined that the products were not submitted for re-inspection upon FSIS imports.

FSIS is concerned that certain products are in the freezers of consumers, distributors, restaurants, retailers or institutions. Any individuals or entities who have purchased these products are urged not to consume or serve them.

The various frozen raw beef products were imported from Uruguay on or about March 17, 2024.

These items were shipped to distributors, restaurants, retailers and institutions in Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington.

Recalled products:

  • Several cardboard boxes labeled “Frigorífico Casa Blanca SA AGUJA CHUCK ROLL” with box code JP0001, containing individually vacuum-sealed products with the text “FRICASA”.
  • Several cardboard boxes labeled “Frigorífico Casa Blanca SA ASADO SIN HUESO SHORT RIB” with box code JP0002, containing individually vacuum-sealed products with the text “FRICASA”.
  • Several cardboard boxes labeled “Frigorífico Casa Blanca SA BIFE ANCHO CUBE ROLL” with box code JP0003, containing individually vacuum-sealed products with the text “FRICASA”.
  • Several cardboard boxes labeled “Frigorífico Casa Blanca SA BIFE ANGOSTO STRIPLOIN” with box code JP0004, containing individually vacuum-sealed products with the text “FRICASA”.
  • Several cardboard boxes labeled “Frigorífico Casa Blanca SA BIFE GRANDE DE VACÍO FLAP MEAT” with box code JP0005, containing individually vacuum-sealed products with the text “FRICASA”.
  • Several cardboard boxes labeled “Frigorífico Casa Blanca SA CARNAZA DE PALETA SHOULDER CLOD” with box code JP0006, containing individually vacuum-sealed products with the text “FRICASA”.
  • Several cardboard boxes labeled “Frigorífico Casa Blanca SA LOMO TENDERLOIN” with box code JP0007, containing individually vacuum-sealed products with the text “FRICASA”.
  • Several cardboard boxes labeled “Frigorífico Casa Blanca SA MARUCHA OYSTER BLADE” with box code JP0008, containing individually vacuum-sealed products with the text “FRICASA”.
  • Several cardboard boxes labeled “Frigorífico Casa Blanca SA PECHO BRISKET” with box code JP0009, containing individually vacuum-sealed products with the text “FRICASA”.

The products subject to recall bear the Uruguayan establishment number “58” printed in the Uruguay inspection mark located on the shipping box and vacuum-sealed product packaging.

At the time this recall was issued, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions resulting from the consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.

Recalled products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
