Bill Maher says the US has failed by running inhumane prisons

Bill Maher made a strong plea Friday night for the U.S. to come to Jesus — even if it doesn’t believe in Jesus — because of the way we treat prisoners.

The “Real Time” host berated us for the whole lock-up-and-throw-the-key mentality. If you make a rape joke you get canceled, except for prison rape jokes – you get laughs for that. As he says, we view sodomy as the appropriate reward for criminal behavior.

The fact is… 95% of prisoners get out, and they come out worse than when they went in. That’s because the conditions in many/most prisons are appalling. Prisoners sleep on the floor and fight for toilets due to overcrowding.

And speaking of overcrowding, we house two million prisoners in the US… more than in Russia.

Bill grumbles that prisons force inmates to become racist. They must align themselves with a racial group and profess hatred against other groups. It’s either that or die, and it’s a byproduct of the way prisons are run.
