Borderlands Streaming, VOD, DVD Release Date
After several flops, game adaptations had finally picked up steam – at least as far as TV series are concerned. Netflix’s Arcane, HBO’s The Last of Us and Prime Video’s Fallout captured the hearts of viewers and critics.
However, in recent years, films like Uncharted and Mortal Kombat have received very mixed reviews and been poorly received by gaming fans. It looks like Borderlands will soon join the ranks.
The film, directed by Eli Roth, is based on the first-person shooter game series of the same name. The events of the game take place on the barren planet Pandora, where the protagonist must find a mysterious artifact and defeat numerous enemies along the way.
While the Borderlands games have received critical and audience praise, the film adaptation has received some unfavorable reviews. All indications are that the messy production process heavily influenced the film, and as such, the Borderlands movie will likely be a flop, despite featuring a cast with names like Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis.

The game adaptation is currently showing in cinemas in the US and UK.

When will Borderlands be released on VOD?
Lionsgate has yet to reveal when the film will be released digitally. Based on the previous film releases, we estimate that this will be released on VOD about a month after the film’s debut.
Borderlands should therefore be available for rental and purchase September 9, 2024.
That’s not that far off, but that’s to be expected if the film does poorly in theaters.

When could Borderlands be released on DVD/Blu-ray?
After the film premieres on VOD, Lionsgate usually releases physical copies. However, it is difficult to predict when this will happen, as previous releases have no set pattern.
Smash hit John Wick 4 hit stores three weeks after its VOD premiere. Conversely, the equally successful The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes was released on DVD and Blu-ray about two months after its digital release.
On the other hand, physical copies of the box office flop The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare arrived two and a half months after reaching Prime Video. Oddly enough, April’s Boy Kills World is still awaiting its DVD and Blu-ray premiere.

According to many predictions, Borderlands will be Lionsgate’s next big flop. If the movie bombs, it’s hard to say how the studio will proceed.
Lionsgate may wait the standard amount of time and release the film on DVD and Blu-ray about two and a half months after its VOD release. By that estimate, copies of Borderlands would be available around mid-November 2024.
However, the studio may conclude that releasing the disappointing film on DVD and Blu-Ray is not profitable for the time being and postpone the release even longer.
When could Borderlands be released on streaming services?
Lionsgate films typically appear on streaming six months after their theatrical release, just like blockbusters John Wick 4 and The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.
If Lionsgate wants to keep this rule for Borderlands, the film could appear on Starz February 2025. The film will later be released on Peacock.
However, if the film seriously underperforms at the box office, it may release on the platform on another date.
Starz’s basic subscription costs $8.99 per month or $74.99 per year with a seven-day free trial. You can get the standard, ad-supported Peacock Premium for $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year.
Songbirds & Snakes and John Wick 4 were released on Prime Video in the UK, so Borderlands could also be available on this streaming service around February 2025. An Amazon Prime subscription costs £8.99 per month, but new users can get a 30-day free trial.
