Carl Radke and Lindsay Hubbard return for season 9

Why would an ugly breakup get in the way of work? With season 9’s “Summer House” set to begin production over the July 4 holiday, Variety has learned that both Carl Radke and Lindsay Hubbard — whose broken engagement gave the show’s eighth season a dramatic backbone — will both return to the show. Filming begins this week for the Bravo show in Water Mill, NY.

Both Hubbard and Radke have been on “Summer House” since the first season in 2016, when they became good friends. After a few false starts in dating, they officially became a couple in early 2022, and Radke proposed to Hubbard on camera later that year during the show’s seventh season. They were supposed to get married in Mexico in November 2023, but news of their breakup exploded on the internet on August 31, 2023, after Page Six confirmed the news.

Fans of the show knew from interviews with the cast — and from the “Summer House” panel at BravoCon last November — that the breakup was filmed for the show. So Season 8 of “Summer House” played out like a modern-day “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” as Radke and Hubbard bickered – and worse. Hubbard questioned Radke’s sobriety several times — he quit drinking in 2021 — and also called him “Cocaine Carl” behind his back (but on camera). For his part, Radke swung professionally and came up with several non-startup business ideas (including acting?), before eventually telling Hubbard he wanted to return to work for Loverboy, the beverage company founded by fellow castmate Kyle Cooke. Radke had previously worked at Loverboy and felt miserable about it, but when Hubbard responded skeptically, Radke told her he needed her to be more supportive and “soft.”

The filmed breakup took place after production seemingly officially ended on season 8, at Hubbard and Radke’s shared apartment in Manhattan. Hubbard has accused Radke of calling producers to trap her and humiliate her in front of the public, but Radke has denied that, claiming he initiated the conversation to resolve their issues.

Season 8 of “Summer House” premiered in February and was the show’s most-watched season. In the recent two-part reunion episodes, Radke and Hubbard didn’t resolve anything, but Radke left the door open for a future friendship.

The rest of the cast of “Summer House” remains the same, except for Danielle Olivera, who announced her departure as a full-time cast member on social media. Married couple Cooke and Amanda Batula, Paige DeSorbo, Ciara Miller and Gabby Prescod – along with Season 8 newcomers Jesse Solomon and West Wilson – are all returning for Season 9. New, yet-to-be-announced cast members will also join the series.
