'Chicago Med' star Dominic Rains will not return for season 10

SPOILER ALERT: The following article contains spoilers from the season 9 finale of “Chicago Med.”

Dominic Rains is leaving the cast of ‘Chicago Med’.

Rains has been starring on the NBC medical drama since season 5, when he began playing Crockett Marcel, a veteran New Orleans physician who heads the 2.0 surgical suite at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center.

While it has been confirmed that Rains has stepped down as a series regular, it is not yet known if he will reprise the role as a guest.

The news comes after the season 9 finale aired on May 22 and hinted at a farewell for Crockett, who loses a young patient named Colin after making the decision not to operate on him, causing Colin’s father to commit suicide. Hospital manager Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) encourages him to take time to process. He later confesses to nurse Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) that he lost his own daughter to leukemia.

“I know how he felt,” Crockett says of Colin’s father. “I didn’t have a gun.” Maggie asks Crockett if she will see him the next day, and he says yes, but hesitates.

Rains also played Crockett in four episodes of “Chicago Fire” and one episode of “Chicago PD,” which also air on NBC and are set in the same universe. Outside of the One Chicago franchise, Rain’s credits include ABC’s “Agents of SHIELD,” Amazon’s “Tales From the Loop” and Ana Lily Amirpour’s 2014 film “A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night.”

Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead created “Chicago Med” and serve as executive producers alongside Diane Frolov, Andrew Schneider, Stephen Hootstein, Eli Talbert, Derek Haas, Arthur Forney, Michael Brandt and Peter Jankowski. Universal Television is the studio and produces in association with Wolf Entertainment.
