Drivers can expect intermittent overnight closures on Peña Boulevard near Denver International Airport throughout the week due to repairs and construction, airport officials said Tuesday.
The right lane of Peña Boulevard toward the airport will be closed between Tower Road and the RTD Bridge from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 4 a.m. Wednesday so construction crews can realign lanes that were moved for the E-470 Widening Project, according to a news release from the airport.
Construction crews will begin a “slow closure” on Peña Boulevard at 1 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, leaving the airport between Tower Road and East 56th Avenue so workers can replace a damaged electronic message board upstairs.
The closure will last less than 10 minutes and speeds will be “significantly reduced,” airport officials said Tuesday. Construction work will last from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 4 a.m. Wednesday and 10 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday.
Peña Boulevard leaving the airport will also be closed once an hour between Jackson Gap Street between 11 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday to allow crews to transport and install bridge girders on E-470.
The roll closures will last seven minutes.
Airport officials expect impacts to traffic to and from DIA, and drivers should take more time or use public transportation.
