Copa America 2024 schedule, standings, scores, live stream: how to watch Argentina look to repeat as champions

The 2024 edition of the Copa America is underway as Argentina look for back-to-back titles in what could be Lionel Messi’s final appearance in the tournament. With the Copa America taking place in the United States, six spots have been filled by Concacaf teams such as the United States, Mexico, Panama, Canada, Jamaica and Costa Rica, who all qualified for the tournament to compete alongside the ten CONMEBOL teams to play.

Ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, it was a good time for Concacaf teams to test themselves ahead of a crucial tournament. Unfortunately, that test proved too difficult for both Mexico and the United States men’s national team with both sides failing to advance out of the group stage.

If two teams are tied on points after the group stage, it is always important to look at the tiebreaks as there can be slight differences in each tournament when certain rules are applied for promotion. Below is how the Copa America applies tiebreakers:

  1. The team with the better goal difference in all group stage matches
  2. The team with the most goals in all group stage matches
  3. Head-to-head between the two teams that are tied
  4. Fewer red cards
