David Mamet – who has written some very famous screenplays in his time – is not a fan of Hollywood’s attempts to diversify… labeling the initiatives as ‘fascist totalitarianism’.
The Pulitzer Prize winner — known for scripts like “Wag the Dog,” “Glengarry Glen Ross” and others — took a strong stance against DEI initiatives Sunday at the Los Angeles Times book festival … where he appeared to be promoting his memoirs.
David made it clear that he is not impressed with Tinseltown’s efforts to promote diversity, equality and inclusivity. He calls such efforts “nonsense.” He added… “The [film industry] has little to do with improving everyone’s racial understanding, nor does the fire service.”
DM suggested that Hollywood has gone too far in an attempt to support often-marginalized groups, especially post-crisis Writers’ Strike of 2023. David suggested that individualism would suffer in the long run.
Of course, this wasn’t the only shocking view shared on Sunday… David also came out in support of the criticism of fake babies. Remember, his daughter, Zosia Mametstarred on HBO’s “Girls” for six seasons, which made her famous.
David doesn’t believe his fame played a factor in his children’s success… championing his children earned it through merit. He noted… “Nobody ever gave my kids a job because of who they were related to.”
Lots of strong opinions here from David…and it sounds like some of it was well received. You can tell the moderator tried to give him a chance to correct himself and say something PC…but the guy stayed clear and stuck to his points, especially on diversity.

In short… he sees no need to meet the quotas in the film world, it’s that simple. 🤷🏽♂️
