Derailed train in Longmont forces closure of US 287

US 287 is closed in Longmont due to a derailed train, according to a Thursday evening X-post from the Colorado Department of Transportation.

All northbound and southbound lanes are closed at 1st Avenue and Emery Street at milepoint 315.4 in Longmont.

The Burlington Northern Santa Fe train is blocking multiple intersections, including 1st Avenue and Main Street, 1st Avenue and Coffman Street, and 1st Avenue and Emery Street.

The derailment, caused by a wheel coming loose from a rail car, is minor, but the train cannot be moved until it is repaired, the city of Longmont said. The repair will likely take place after 8 a.m. on Friday.
