Filming begins with James Gunn

More than two years after the end of the first season, a new batch of episodes of ‘Peacemaker’ is finally here.

James Gunn, co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios went to Instagram on Saturday to unveil a selfie reflected in Peacemaker’s signature headgear. Gunn simply titled the photo “Day 1 S2. 🧜‍♂️.” The mermaid emoji is a nod to the show’s fans, as Vigilante (Freddie Stroma) revealed in the first season that it was his favorite emoji, saying it means “happy, sad and everything in between.”

Gunn created and directed the first season of the Max superhero show, starring John Cena as the violent yet sensitive Peacemaker. The first season also starred Danielle Brooks, Chukwudi Iwuji, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee and Robert Patrick as Peacemaker’s father, White Dragon.

After the season 1 finale, Gunn spoke with Variety about his overall vision of the character and his journey.

“The most important thing for me in the first season was who Peacemaker was and where he was going,” he said. “What was his personal journey? The Butterflies and the plot and all of that is secondary to who he was as a character and what his changes were, as well as the other characters and where they started and where they end, because they all have little change for themselves – with the exception of Vigilante , which follows a sort of straight line the entire time. So I know where Peacemaker starts and where it ends, but I’m playing with other ideas around that and how that will turn out.
