Lakewood police arrested a 31-year-old former paraprofessional from Brady Exploration High School on suspicion of child sex abuse by a person in a position of trust, sexual exploitation of a child and other charges.
Imagine Ewer was arrested on Jan. 9 and charged with child abuse, sexual exploitation of a child, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and unlawful electronic sexual communications, according to court records. All charges are felonies.
Staff and families at Brady Exploration High School were notified of Ewer’s arrest Friday via an email from Jeffco Public Schools.
Ewer was hired as a paraprofessional at Brady in August, placed on leave on Nov. 15 and fired on Dec. 16, the letter said.
School district officials cited state law when they sent the email Friday, three months after Ewer’s arrest. They stated that the law “requires notice to the community only after the court finds probable cause based on a formal preliminary hearing.”
“This balances the rights of the community, the victims and the suspects,” school district officials wrote.
Ewer’s preliminary hearing was postponed several times, and she finally waived her right to a preliminary hearing on Friday, according to district officials. She is scheduled to appear in court on May 28.
Ewer was released on $25,000 bail in February, according to court records.
