Germany vs. Denmark prediction, live stream: where to watch UEFA Euro 2024 round of 16 live online, TV, odds

UEFA Euro 2024 is on the road again this weekend with the round of 16, and on Saturday Germany will take on Denmark in Dortmund, with Julian Nagelsmann’s home country looking to illustrate their favorite title. The Germans last drew against Switzerland in Frankfurt, but won their two opening games against Scotland and Hungary to move into first place in Group A.

The Danes were second in Group C behind England, but are one of three teams without a win in that group, so they will need a major shock if they want to record a first win. Last Sunday’s hero, Niclas Fullkrug, was playing on home ground in Dortmund, but his goal actually made Die Mannschaft’s job more difficult as he was on the same side of the draw as Spain, France, Belgium and Portugal.

A quarter-final with La Roja could wait, but first Germany has to fight their way through a tough Scandinavian team that doesn’t win much, but doesn’t lose either. In fact, Kasper Hjulmand’s side are undefeated so far in 2024 (seven games like the Germans) and will be a challenging opponent indeed.

The last time Denmark defeated their opponents this weekend was in the group stages of Euro 2012, with Lukas Podolski on the scoresheet. If the Danes want to reunite with Group C opponent Slovenia in the semi-finals, many big names will have to be left out.

Here are our storylines, how to watch the match and more:

How to watch and odds

How they got here

Germany topped Group A with seven points from nine and eight goals from just two goals conceded, but almost fell to second place behind Switzerland before they were able to retain top spot late on. It was the second best for Denmark in Group C behind England with three draws and no losses, but also no wins and only two goals for the same number of goals conceded.

Team news

Germany: Nagelsmann has remained with the same XI so far, but Jonathan Tah has now been suspended for this one. Antonio Rudiger is nursing an injury but should be fit to partner Nico Schlotterbeck for Manuel Neuer, although Robin Koch or Waldemar could replace Anton. Fullkrug’s equalizer against the Swiss could make a change, but Kai Havertz is unlikely to drop from the XI.

Possible Germany XI: Neuer; Kimmich, Schlotterbeck, Rudiger, Mittelstadt; Kroos, Andrich; Musiala, Gundogan, Wirtz; Havertz.

Denmark: The Danes will have to make do without Morten Hjulmand due to suspension, so Christian Norgaard or Mathias Jensen or Thomas Delaney can come in. Up top, Jonas Wind could be a substitute, assisting Christian Eriksen against Slovenia with Andreas Skov Olsen, Kasper Dolberg or Yussuf Poulsen available.

Possible Denmark XI: Schmeichel; Andersen, Christensen, Vestergaard; Bah, Hojbjerg, Delaney, Maehle; Eriksen; Hojlund, Wind.

Prediction

Although Denmark are difficult to beat, they find it equally difficult to win and goals are not a problem for Germany under Nagelsmann. Expect a home win by around two goals and a place in the quarter-finals at the end of it. Choose: Germany 2, Denmark 0.
