Germany vs. Switzerland odds, prediction, pick: live stream, how to watch Euro 2024 online, start time

UEFA Euro 2024 host nation Germany can close Group A with a 100% winning record if Julian Nagelsmann’s side beat Switzerland in Frankfurt on Sunday. The Germans defeated Scotland in the opening match and beyond Abolish Hungary to take control of the standings and a draw is now good enough to secure first place for the Swiss. However, a win would make Die Mannschaft the only team to achieve three wins from three matches ahead of the round of 16.

Germany can rotate their squad if Nagelsmann so chooses, although Switzerland will likely go all out in an attempt to beat the home team. The Germans are now unbeaten in six games with five wins in that period and young talents such as Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz are flourishing on home soil. Since 1968, Die Mannschaft have failed to score against the Swiss and seven goals so far in this European Championship suggest that this side will continue to do so.

Murat Yakin’s men are unbeaten in their last three games against Germany, despite losing 16 of 18 before that. A draw is enough to send Switzerland to the knockout stages and their current points tally will likely be enough to do that through at least a third-place finish. Even if the Swiss lose and Scotland win, goal difference should still keep the Nati ahead of the Tartan Army. Only one defeat in their last 12 Euro games, but more draws in this competition than any other country since 2016 underlines they will be tough to beat.

group A

Germany is leading the way and the home country will secure first place by avoiding defeat. A loss would allow Switzerland to take a lead, but a draw would secure both countries the first two places. A win for Scotland and a defeat for Switzerland will bring goal difference and require Steve Clarke’s side to make an unlikely goal swing. Hungary can still move up as one of the best teams in third place, but really needs a win to have a chance of doing so.

Team news

Germany: Nagelsmann could make a few player changes but will likely prefer consistency in his squad. Ilkay Gundogan should remain captain in Frankfurt alongside Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz behind Kai Havertz at the top. Defenders Jonathan Tah, Antonio Rudiger and Maximilian Mittelstadt, as well as midfielder Robert Andrich, are all one booking away from being banned, so that is something to take into account.

Possible Germany XI: Neuer; Kimmich, Tah, Rudiger, Mittelstadt; Andrich, Kroos; Musiala, Gundogan, Wirtz; Havertz.

Switzerland: Breel Embolo could start as his post-injury fitness improves, while Xherdan Shaqiri could keep his place, although Murat Yakin is likely to be cautious against the power of the German attack. Denis Zakaria is struggling with an injury, but should be able to fill a substitute role, which is a boost for the knockout stages.

Possible Switzerland XI: Summer; Schar, Akanji, Rodriguez; Widmer, Xhaka, Freuler, Aebischer; Ndoye, Vargas; Embolo.

Prediction

Germany are in strong form, but Switzerland are a tough match and both sides will probably be happy with a draw, although the home advantage is somewhat in the Germans’ favour. A narrow victory for Nagelsmann’s team would not be a surprise, but the Swiss are capable of making it difficult for the hosts. Choose: Germany 1, Switzerland 1.
