For all Android users, Google Maps is releasing a new update that changes the toggle for 3D buildings during navigation on Android Auto. While Google Maps has allowed 3D viewing on Android Auto for a while now, they’ve now found a way to streamline that particular setting by syncing it with your Android smartphone.

Google Maps now syncs the 3D construction switch between smartphones and Android Auto

Currently, this feature is available as standard on several platforms, including CarPlay (iOS), Android Auto (Android), and iPhones (iOS). So far in beta the current version of Google Maps for Android (v125) brings a small improvement where the choice to display 3D buildings syncs between devices. If you have 3D Buildings enabled on your phone, you will see that it is also enabled in Android Auto.

AssemblyDebug from X I discovered the update before. It smoothens the customer experience and allows showing 3D buildings from phone and Android Auto without any discrepancy. Previously, changing it required the user to go into the settings and enable it manually via the car’s display. Now it will sync with the Maps app on your phone.

With this update installed, users can easily manage 3D settings from their mobile device and adjust them automatically when they boot into Android Auto. However, users should also note that the syncing only occurs during boot-up, and it may not happen immediately as soon as the smartphone is turned on.

Beta testing will begin before availability expands

Nevertheless, after you reconnect to your car, Android Auto will pull data from the Maps app on your phone. This feature sometimes worked in previous versions, but with the latest update, device syncing is much more reliable. While it’s a small change, it’s a good sign as it shows that the company hasn’t forgotten about Android Auto.

The full release should happen in a few weeks, but before then the beta version will be available for testing. Users can customize their 3D building preferences across different Android devices and manage them seamlessly through Android Auto.
