A Pueblo police officer shot and killed an armed man who pulled a gun while he was being arrested, according to Pueblo police.
Officers responded to a call about animal cruelty at 2 p.m., Pueblo Police Department officials said in a news release Wednesday evening.
Officers spoke with a suspect and determined that he had an arrest warrant for failing to appear at the hearing. When officers tried to arrest him, the man pulled a gun from his pocket and an officer shot him in response, Pueblo police said in a news release.
Officers administered first aid and the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries and later pronounced dead. No officers were injured in the shooting.
Pueblo police did not say where the shooting occurred and could not be reached for comment late Wednesday.
The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave and the shooting will be investigated by the 10th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team and led by the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office.
