Hello Sunshine and F1 Academy Partner for Netflix Docuseries

The female drivers of Formula 1’s F1 Academy currently have a docuseries about them in the works at Netflix, courtesy of Reese Witherspoon’s production company Hello Sunshine.

Variety has exclusively learned that the docuseries, which was announced last year as being in development, is now in production and will be available to stream worldwide on Netflix in 2025. At the time of the original announcement, no network or streamer was connected.

“The multi-part, adrenaline-fueled series gives fans exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the all-female racing category, highlighting the drama of the races, as well as the personal stories and high stakes for the drivers, their teams, sponsors and families involved involved, while breaking barriers in one of the most demanding sports in the world,” the logline reads.

“We started Hello Sunshine to change the narrative for women, and Susie Wolff and F1 Academy are doing just that by creating new opportunities in the exciting world of motorsport,” said Witherspoon. “As these dynamic and fearless drivers break barriers behind the wheel, we’re excited to partner with Netflix to tell the stories of these powerful leaders. What we know is that when we put women at the center, people come to watch.”

The partnership announcement follows news of the F1 Academy’s 2024 season which will be broadcast in more than 160 territories and streamed live on F1 Academy’s social channels in an effort to expand its audience globally.

“We want to be the rocket fuel that drives women’s participation in our sport, both on and off the track. Launching the F1 Academy docuseries globally with Netflix is ​​not only a huge step forward in the visibility of our mission, but also a resounding statement about the momentum and demand for women’s sport,” said Susie Wolff, the MBE and general director of the F1 Academy. . “We want to inspire and empower the next generation of young women, and Netflix will open the F1 Academy to a global audience of existing and future fans.”

Hello Sunshine’s previous unscripted content includes “Surf Girls,” “Side Hustler,” “My Kind of Country,” “Making the Cut” and the documentary “Wynonna: Between Hell and Hallelujah.”
