Have you ever wondered why your smartphone knows a little too much about your late-night online shopping habits?
This is due to cookies: those small data packets in your browser that collect information about you while you surf.
This is usually anonymized so that websites can find out which functions you use or show you relevant advertisements. But sometimes they can also be used more maliciously, tracking you across the internet to build a profile about you.
So, what if you want to disable cookies? Let’s see how you can manage them on your Android phone so you can browse with a little more anonymity.
What are cookies on my phone?
Cookies are small files that websites store on your device so that they can remember pieces of information about your visit. These can range from keeping you logged in and remembering your site preferences, to tracking your every digital movement for advertising.
These cookies function on your phone just like on a computer, they live in your mobile browser and sometimes outlast their welcome.
