Ingvar Sigurdsson replaces Joseph Mawle in drama 'King & Conqueror'

“The Northman” star Ingvar Sigurdsson has replaced Joseph Mawle in the medieval drama “King & Conqueror.”

Sigurdsson, who also appeared in ‘Everest’ and ‘Killing Eve’, will take on the role of Fitzosbern, protector of William of Normandy. He is described as “a grounded and straightforward soldier who has stood by William’s side all his life” and is the closest thing William has to a friend.

Sigurdsson joins “Happy Valley’s” James Norton and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in the upcoming drama series from CBS Studios and BBC.

Norton plays Harold, Earl of Wessex, while Coster-Waldau is William, Duke of Normandy.

“Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy were two men who would meet at the Battle of Hastings in 1066; two allies with no goal on the British throne, who were forced by circumstance and personal obsession into a war for possession of the British crown,” the logline reads.

The show, which just wrapped in Iceland, also announced Monday that “Interview With the Vampire” actor Elander Moore will play the role of cruel and cunning aristocrat Morcar, “Industry’s” Indy Lewis as the sheltered Margaret and “My Lady Jane’ actor. Jason Forbes as the loyal Thane Thomas, Ines Asserson of “Royalteen” as the eligible Judith and Sveinn Ólafur Gunnarsson of “Heartstone” as the fearsome warrior Hardrada.

“King & Conqueror” is created by Michael Robert Johnson (“Sherlock Holmes”), with “Everest” director Baltasar Kormákur directing the premiere episode. The show is produced by Rabbit Track Pictures, The Development Partnership, Shepherd Content, RVK Studios and CBS Studios, in association with the BBC. Paramount Global Content Distribution represents the series outside Britain and Ireland.
