Tehran, Iran:

Iran warned on Saturday that “all Resistance Fronts,” a grouping of Iran and its regional allies, would confront Israel if it attacked Lebanon.

The comments from the Iranian mission to New York come amid fears of a broader regional war involving Israel and Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah movement. Since the start of the war in Gaza, the two sides have engaged in almost daily gun battles.

Such exchanges have escalated this month, alongside belligerent rhetoric from both sides. The Israeli military said plans for an offensive in Lebanon had been “approved and validated,” prompting Hezbollah to respond that none of Israel would be spared in a full-blown conflict.

But, it added, “if it were to turn to large-scale military aggression, a devastating war would follow. All options, including the full involvement of all resistance fronts, are on the table.”

The war in Gaza began in October when Palestinian Hamas operatives attacked southern Israel.

Iran, which backs Hamas, has hailed the attack as a success but denied any involvement.

In addition to Hezbollah’s attacks on northern Israel, Iran-backed rebels in Yemen have repeatedly attacked commercial ships in the Red Sea region, in what they say are acts of solidarity with the Palestinians.

Iran also supports other groups in the region.

The Islamic republic has not recognized Israel since the 1979 revolution that overthrew the US-backed Iranian Shah.

Fears of a regional war also increased in April, after an airstrike that leveled the Iranian consulate in Damascus and killed seven Revolutionary Guards, including two generals.

Iran hit back with an unprecedented drone and missile attack on Israel on April 13 and 14.

Iranian state media later reported explosions in the central province of Isfahan, when US media quoted US officials as saying Israel had carried out retaliatory attacks on its archrival.

Tehran downplayed the reported Israeli raid.
