James Corden and Ruth Jones confirm 'Gavin and Stacey' Christmas episode

Another Christmas episode of ‘Gavin and Stacey’ is officially underway.

James Corden and Ruth Jones, the creators and stars of the classic British sitcom, shared a photo on Instagram on Friday of them holding the script for an episode titled “the finale.”

“Some news… It’s official!!!” Corden and Jones wrote. “We’ve finished writing the very last episode of ‘Gavin and Stacey.’ See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. I love Ruth and James.”

“Gavin and Stacey” premiered in 2007 and follows the title characters, an Essex boy and a Welsh girl (played by Mathew Horne and Joana Page), as well as Corden’s Smithy and Jones’ Nessa. As the show’s plot description reads: “Gavin and Stacey have continued their romance online and by phone for the past six months. Now they want to be together, but will their friends and family let them?”

Other cast members include Alison Steadman and Larry Lamb as Gavin’s parents, Melanie Walters as Stacey’s mother and Rob Brydon as Stacey’s uncle.

“Gavin and Stacey” aired through 2010 and was a breakout hit for the BBC. It won several BAFTA TV Awards, including comedy performances and the Radio Times Audience Award.

The show last aired on BBC One in 2019, which attracted a whopping 18 million viewers, making it the most watched non-sporting event in Britain in a decade. The last episode ended on a huge cliffhanger, with Nessa declaring her I love Smithy and proposing to him – but fans never saw Smithy’s reaction.
