Kamala Harris‘ The presidential run may have boosted ‘Veep’s’ viewership… but the show’s creator says any ties between her and the show’s main character weren’t intentional.
Armando Iannucci – the man who created the seventeen-time Emmy-winning saga – recently spoke with The guard …and he quickly dispelled any doubts, adamantly saying that KH didn’t inspire Julia Louis Dreyfus‘Selina Meijer.
He says he understands where people see the connection — a female senator, elevated to the vice presidency before having to step into the president’s shoes after he resigns — but it’s all just one big coincidence.
However, Iannucci explains the secret to creating TV shows that seem straight out of a crystal ball… research, and lots of it.
Armando explains that he and the cast spent a lot of time talking to people in politics to create an authentic show… including talking to people who worked in the Vice President’s office years ago.
By the way… Iannucci says he sees Vice President Meyer on his show as a shadow of Donald Trump because of her vanity and vindictiveness – and he really hopes people don’t think he based Selina on the future Democratic candidate for president.
Like we told you… “Veep” saw a viewership increase of more than 300% thereafter Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential election and Kamala endorsed — which, as we noted, isn’t exactly a compliment considering Meyer’s despicable character.
Iannucci told The Guardian that he supports Kamala… and he seems to be hoping no one will bring Selina Meyer’s issues against her.
