Kate Winslet reveals she ‘refused to hide her belly rolls’ on set
Kate Winslett recalled standing up for herself after feeling ashamed of her body on set.

Winslet said a crew member advised her to “sit up straight” to avoid stomach rolling.
Winslet, 48, recalled the shameful incident when she bared all for a recent topless magazine cover.
The Oscar winner said the incident happened while she was filming the biopic for WWII model Lee Miller, an adaptation of Anthony Penrose’s 1985 biography. The life of Lee Miller.

The actress was confident that she would not move herself to hide her natural body.

About the conversation with the crew member during filming, Winslet told the magazine, “There’s a bit where Lee is sitting on a bench in a bikini… And one of the crew members came up between takes and said ‘You may want to sit straighter‘“.
Winslet added, “So you can’t see my stomach rolling? Not in your life! It was intentional, you know?”

Winslet revealed that she wanted to see “a fully functioning, flawed” female body in her nude scene in Mare of Easttown.

Having a perfect image on the screen is not a high priority for the Oscar winner. Winslet even proudly stated that she felt “the opposite” about this.
The actress admitted: “I be proud of it because it’s my life on my face, and that matters. It wouldn’t occur to me to cover that up.”
She’s also no stranger to nudity in her work. Winslet’s infamous nude scene Titanic – when she leans back on a chaise longue and asks Leonardo DiCaprio‘s character to “draw me like one of your French girls” – has become an iconic reference in pop culture.

She also does not shy away from nudity in recent projects. About her nude scene in HBO’s 2021 Mare by EasttownWinslet said she felt an obligation to portray her character in a raw and real sense.
The actress said she wanted viewers to see “a fully functioning, flawed woman with a body and a face that moves in a way synonymous with her age.”

During an interview with the New York TimesWinslet acknowledged the lack of unfiltered bodies and faces in modern TV and film, adding, “I think we’re a little starved of that” when it comes to realistic standards.
Winslet was aware that viewers might be surprised by her “unglamorous” performance on the show. Still, she refused director Craig Zobel’s offer to remove “a bulging piece of belly.”
The actress even recalled telling Zobel “don’t you dare” after reassuring him that the angle wouldn’t make the final cut.

Winslet admitted that she feels a “huge sense of relief” that more and more women are accepting their bodies.

Winslet remained steadfast in her beliefs about over-photoshop, returning the series’ promotional photos several times “because they were too retouched.”
She snapped that she was aware of the “many lines” around her eyes.

On getting older and feeling better about herself, Winslet admitted, “I feel a huge sense of relief that women are so much more accepting of themselves and refusing to be judged.”
“Because I don’t know a single contemporary of mine who grew up and saw her mother look in the mirror and say, ‘I look nice!’ My mom never did that. It was always, ‘Oh God, I don’t think I can wear this, do I look hippie, does my butt look big?'”
