Kel Mitchell says Dan Schneider yelled at him on the 'All That' set

“All That” and “Kenan & Kel” actor Kel Mitchell revealed on the podcast ‘Baby, this is Keke Palmer’ that Dan Schneider reportedly once yelled at him in a closet on set when he was 18 or 19 years old. Mitchell’s story is the latest allegation of misconduct by a former Nickelodeon actor against Schneider. Investigation Discovery’s recent documentary series “Quiet on Set” featured several other actors who alleged that Schneider was mistreated during his tenure at Nickelodeon.

“The vibe of the show started to change a little bit,” Mitchell said, when Schneider took over “All That” from original co-creator Brian Robbins, who started doing “Varsity Blues” and all these different films and the production team started blowing up , so they left.

“They left us with the head writer, Dan Schneider. So he’s writing, and me and him are kind of bouncing off each other,” Mitchell continued. “I remember me and Dan had a big fight on set. He said, ‘Let’s go here, to this room, into this closet.’ He closed the door and just took off, you know, screaming all these wild things.”

“Being an adult at this point, I had to make a decision, you know what I mean? I was like, okay, so are we [are] I’m going to fight or I’m going to leave,” the actor added. “And so that’s what I did. I left the situation.”

Variety has contacted Schneider’s representative for comment.

Mitchell was an original cast member of “All That,” which debuted on the network in 1994. He starred on the sketch comedy series for five seasons, while also headlining Nickelodeon’s ‘Kenan & Ke’ alongside Kenan Thompson from 1996 and was the spin-off of the popular series ‘All That’. “All That” portrays “Good Burger” in its own 1997 film.

Thompson previously responded to the allegations against Schneider in “Quiet on Set” by saying “my heart goes out” to all the former child actors and teen stars affected by his alleged inappropriate behavior.

“It is a difficult subject. It’s hard for me because I can’t really speak about things I’ve never witnessed before,” Thompson said at the time. “All these things actually happened after I left. Than [Schneider] wasn’t really like that on ‘Kenan & Kel’. He was given the ‘Created by’ credit, but it was a different showrunner. All that negativity started happening outside of our tenure [at Nickelodeon]. I wasn’t really aware of it, but my heart goes out to everyone who was victimized or their families.”

‘It’s a good thing that the doctor is there and exhibits things that need to be done, stories that need to be told for the sake of accountability. But it’s definitely hard to watch because I have fond memories of that place,” Thompson continued. “I have fond memories of my co-stars. It is very hard to hear that they have experienced such terrible things.”

In a later interview with Variety, Thompson said he felt “so guilty” because he said he had fond memories of Nickelodeon amid the abuse allegations against one of the network’s former top creatives.

“I feel so guilty saying that. All these things started happening after our term because, I think, no one would even dare to do it. It wasn’t that kind of environment. There was no dictatorship over any of this,” Thompson emphasized. “We were all building something and when you build something, I don’t think anyone is stubborn enough to pull things behind the curtain.”
