The wait for Kylian Mbappé’s first La Liga goal is officially over: the World Cup winner scored his first league goals for Real Madrid against Real Betis on Sunday, completing both in a 2-0 victory. He scored in the 67th minute of a goalless match through a move that started with Vinicius Junior running on the edge of the penalty area and spotting Federico Valverde nearby and sending the ball his way. Valverde then fired the ball quickly and effortlessly towards the goal with his back heel, catching almost everyone except Mbappé off guard. The newcomer then wasted no time in quickly running towards the goal and scoring from close range.

Mbappe added a second to his tally eight minutes later after Betis goalkeeper Rui Silva fouled Vinicius in the penalty area and was awarded a penalty. The Frenchman took the penalty and scored, sending the ball to the right as Silva dived in the opposite direction.

Watch the punishment below.

The two goals were not Mbappe’s first for Real Madrid, that came during their UEFA Super Cup victory over Atalanta last month. He started each of Los Blancos’ four La Liga matches this season, but failed to score in the first three. That raised concerns among some, but not manager Carlo Ancelotti, who rightly believed the goals would come eventually.

The brace marks his first goal at the Santiago Bernabeu as a Real Madrid player, but not his first at the stadium: he scored two goals in three previous appearances when Paris Saint-Germain visited the ground for Champions League matches.
