It seemed that Inter Miami was destined for a draw, but in the 94th minute of play Leonardo Campana pushed them to a 1-0 win over DC United. Campana was on the pitch for less than a minute before scoring the eventual winner to push the Herons to the top of the league.

Campana lured his shot in after receiving a ball from Sergio Busquets showing that the entire Miami team can contribute to their success during the season.

After missing their last match against Orlando City with a leg injury, Lionel Messi returned to the starting line-up, but he was not involved in a goal. Even if there’s no scoring, there’s no reason to worry, especially with the defense improving lately.

Miami was performing in top gear, scoring 16 goals in the previous six games, but they were yet to keep a clean sheet in that period, holding their second consecutive game against DC. The Herons came up against a formidable opponent in the final match. Christian Benteke who scored eleven goals this season and still managed to maintain a shutout, something that would not have happened earlier in the season.

With the win, the Herons now lead at the top of the Eastern Conference FC Cincinnati who have also played one match less. With just two losses this season, it’s clear that a healthy Miami is one of the strongest teams in the league and they’ve only gotten better with the addition of Matias Rojas to the roster.

Next up is a clash against the Vancouver Whitecaps on May 25 before returning to midweek play to host Atlanta United on May 29. It will be a time when rotation is needed, so it is crucial that the squad contributes now.
