Luke Newton Teases Benedict’s Journey in Bridgerton Season 4 Arc

Luke Newton is excited to share the Bridgerton torch for one of his costars in season 4.

“I love Benedict’s storyline this season, he’s very free and I think this is a really fun place to be on set,” Newton, 31, who plays Colin Bridgerton, said. L’Beaute Homme in an interview published on Friday, May 31. “He is a free spirit and something of a rebel. I can’t wait to see Benedict’s story next season.”

While Netflix has already been renewed Bridgerton for season 4, the streaming giant has not shared which leading couple will take center stage. It is widely speculated by fans that Benedict (Luke Thompson), Francesca (Hannah Dodd) or Eloise (Claudia Jessie) will be next. Benedict’s story takes place in Julia Quinn‘s third Bridgerton novel, An offer from a gentleman. However, Netflix and Shondaland have swapped the order so that season 3 will feature Colin’s friends-and-lovers romance with Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).

The first episodes of Bridgerton season 3 dropped on Netflix last month, with the back half of the episodes premiering later this month. It’s unknown how season 3 will play out, but it will likely follow Quinn’s book Romantic Mr. Bridgerton, the episodes of which have been adapted. At the end of the novel, Colin and Penelope get married. As of the show’s season 3 cliffhanger, Colin has yet to receive an answer regarding his marriage proposal.

Both Newton and Coughlan, 37, have confirmed they will also be appearing next season.

“Jess [Brownell]the writer, gave us a little bit of information,” Newton said L’Beaute Homme, referring to himself and Coughlan. “She made me read my first scene, which was very exciting. Nic and I have conversations about our hopes for our role, but it’s so hard to predict.

He continued: “This show is so romantic, but we explored the romantic comedy. Colin is going through a difficult time, so I’m looking forward to next season, I’m just happy and enjoying it.”

Newton, who proclaimed that Bridgerton is changed [his] life,” further hinted at Colin’s next storyline.

“It changed my life. I love that I wake up every morning and think that this is my job and that all the work of the last sixteen years has led to this,” Newton said. L’Beaute Homme of the show. “It feels like it’s paying off. Also the stability in the show, knowing that I get to play a different version of this character next season, especially with Colin because he’s growing up. It’s a gift to be able to play a character that’s growing.”

He continued, “One of the biggest things is the cast, which feels like there’s something very different because we’re all connected and sharing experiences that we’ve been through. …Every year someone else gets to enjoy the ride as the star of the show and then step back, it’s a crazy experience.

The remaining episodes of Bridgerton Season 3 will be released on Netflix on Thursday, June 13.
