Marvel's TV show 'Agatha' is 'really scary,' says Studio Boss

Marvel’s upcoming “WandaVision” spinoff series “Agatha” is going to be “really scary,” at least according to a top studio executive. Brad Winderbaum, head of streaming, television and animation for Marvel Studios, recently appeared on the “Official Marvel Podcast” (via The playlist) and said that ‘Agatha’ will only be fun for so long until it starts scaring viewers.

“’Agatha’ is a lot of fun, but also very scary. And it’s going to be pretty dramatic,” Winderbaum teased. “She’s a great anti-hero. It lures you into the fun of Halloween, and before you know it, you’re crying.

“It’s a Marvel brand of scary. It’s a Halloween show,” he added. “There are deadly stakes in this series. It’s a fun ride, but also dangerous.”

Kathryn Hahn leads the series, reprising her Emmy-nominated role of Agatha Harkness. Details about the plot for the show, which debuts on Disney+ on September 18, remain under wraps. Hahn is joined in “Agatha” by Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Aubrey Plaza, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn and Debra Jo Rupp. The series picks up after the events of “WandaVision,” in which Agatha Harkness (Hahn) was left powerless thanks to Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen). “WandaVision” showrunner Jac Schaeffer is behind the spinoff.

Winderbaum also spoke briefly about the upcoming limited series “Daredevil: Born Again,” which will see the full-fledged return of Charlie Cox after making brief appearances in MCU projects such as “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Echo” and “She-Hulk.”

“These characters have matured. The universe is different than it was,” Winderbaum explained. “Things have changed. Society has changed. Mat [Murdock] and Wilson [Fisk] have changed and their characters will collide in ways we’ve never seen before. It’s no longer enough to try to kill each other. There is a whole political game going on.”
